Yesterday (13th Jun’2014), largest number of people celebrated the birthday of one enlightened saint who actually had been changing the world. From his birth till date, from his talks and gossips to the preachings and now he has also entered “The largest number of Film making industry – Bollywood”. Yes, he is a man of (1440-1518 AD) and took a birth in “The Oldest City on the Earth” till date – Varanasi/ Kashi/ Banaras, in India! He is Saint Kabir. The most popular saint whose pious work is now available everywhere in the form of Books/ CDs/ DVDs. You can also find him in the Bollywood songs. Some of his great creations include, “Kabir Bijak”, “Kabir Granthawali”, “Sakhi Granth” and “Kabir Bani”. A lot has been recreated from these original creations and kudos to some legendary singers who actully introduced his poems and sakhis (one kind of poem) to the new generation such that youth has become crazy after his lyrics. “Raaz2 (A Bollywood Horror Movie)” and “Ye Jawani hai Diwani (Bollywood movie)” are the evidences that if some modern touch can be given in the musical part then his (Saint Kabir’s) lyrics can make a deep impact in the soul. But as usual, his life was not so easy when he was alive on this planet! Yes. He had to face so much and that MUCH is something we can’t imagine even!

Due to belonging to the Weaver family, he was not eligible enough to claim natural rights even, such as taking bath in a river with everyone! Yes, he faced very much in the name of caste and in the name of religion in his early life. But he didn’t care for this humiliation. He actually opposed it so bravely. In OSHO’s words, “Kabir was the Fearless personality born in Kashi. He never thought for the outcome of his speech, such was the force in him to tell the truth in the society.” Though he was brought up in the Muslim family, he became disciple of a Hindu Monk and worshiped the GOD till the end of his life, by chanting the mantra of “Ram Naam (Name of Hindu God)”! Through it he achieved the height, where he saw “Everything as One and One as Everything”, which we call as “An Enlightenment” and then, “The Sage” took birth out of a weaver! In the time when Sage Kabir was alive in Kashi, was a time of the Moghal emperors and he had to face their enmity too due to his free thinking about the religion.That was one of the most difficult time of India. Everywhere, there was unawareness and violence in the name of Religion and that was the time when Saint Kabir visited this planet and has been guiding everyone since then. Following his preachings, so many people came under one shelter and declare them selves as “Kabir Panthis (Followers of Saint Kabir)”. The panth is not at all a new religion as they understand or believe. But it is the unique formation of people and belief about the religion where there remains no discrimination on the basis of Religion and Caste. Since the master of this was above all of these social dimensions. You don’t require much complex ritual to join the path of the Saint. They’re simply given the “KanthiMala (Necklace made of Tulsi beads/ Sacred Rudraksha)” or “Yagyopaveet (Sacred thread worn crossed around the body from shoulders to waist)”. But this is just a social recognition of a “Kabir Panthi”. Inside every human who always thinks Humanity is as similar as any Kabirpanthi since for Sage Kabir, Humanity is required to be Religious and he has told this thing many times in his Sakhis (One type of poem). And that is why I love to call him a “Sage”. In India, Sage has the deepest meaning. It means a quality of letting go everything, suffering everything just for the sake for everyone. A sage can’t hate anyone. A Sage can’t hurt anyone. A Sage can’t demolish the Human tendencies. A Sage always tries to bridge the gap between the “Doer” and the “Witness”. A lot of great work has been done on the life of “Sage Kabir” and the author is not capable enough to say a few words on an “Enlightened Master”. But he would definately like to share his few thoughts, from his perception, on “What Kabir means to say”! And we shall do it by Sage Kabir’s few famous Sakhis (Poems).

1) Buraa jo dekhan me chalaa to buraa naa milyaa koi, Jo Man khojaa aapna to mujase buraa naa koi. (When I travelled to search the Evil of the world, I didn’t find anyone. But when I searched for the same in me, I found the Greatest one!)
-  It is a “Human Tendency” to search for Evil everwhere and in everyone. Even, if we can’t find something comfortable to us in life, we used to say bad words about the almighty too. That is simply a “Human Tendency”. But it creates a great imbalance inside. When you try and always try to see the bad part of someone in life, you can’t grow anymore. Because all the time, you are in the deepest fight with someone. You want to proove yourself good just by putting sin on someone. You want to increase your line just by cutting someone’s line and that brings the imbalance. When you focus your mind on someone’s ugly things, you just don’t focus, after focusing you chew it everyday in your life by remembering it, until it becomes the core part of your sub conscious and later of the unconscious memory. You see everywhere Evil things and keep on doing complaints for everyone and for everything.
- And that can be very well understood that just like, “You can’t see your face reflection in the boiling water”, “You can’t enjoy life in full if you have complaints”.
- That is why Kabir has to say, when he tried to look bad part of someone, he found none. But when he looked him self, he found the worst one.
- Two things have to be understood.
- Kabir doesn’t find any bad quality in other! HOW??? Because, he didn’t EXPECT anything from others. It is our EXPECTATION which binds us to see the bad part in anyone. We EXPECT that everyone MUST react and do things as per OUR wish and that is not possible in this spontaneous world. When you put apart EXPECTATION, you see how beautiful world is this. When you have no EXPECTATION, you approach every person with great respect, with great joy, without complaints and that totality of yours in meeting someone, creates a great chemistry in any of your relation!
- And the best part of this Sakhi is, what Kabir says, ‘The worst one in this world, is simply me!’ See the beauty. Kabir is NOT creating a GUILT here. He is showing the gateway to come out of it. He conveys that we can be as good as anyone on this planet, if we can find out mistakes. To grow, you have to know your weakness, your mistakes, your points of the aches, only then you can grow, you can prosper and that is what Kabir is saying in this two liner Sakhi (Poem).
- Kabir doesn’t say that the one who sees BAD in anyone/ someone is BAD, because he KNOWS that it is not the HUMAN who is thinking evil, it is simply a HUMAN TENDENCY who likes to see and chew BAD things. Kabir simply asks us to use this natural tendency to make our self BETTER to BEST by focusing on our bad part and improving our QUALITY as a Human being.

2) Kabira jab tum aaye the, Jag hase tum roye. Aisi karni kar chalo, tum haso Jag roye. (Kabir, when you took birth, everyone was laughing and you were crying. Do something, that after death, you laugh and world cries.)
-  The fabulous Sakhi depicting the core of Hinduism – A Karma.
-   Sage Kabir preaches the importance of “Karma (Everyday Physical and Psycological Actions) ” here. In the world, we can see that when a child takes birth, his parents and relatives are so happy to welcome him, that they laugh with joy. But the child only knows how safe that was in the Mother’s womb and now he has to take a birth as a seperate identity and how difficult it is! The Child now has to fulfill all his needs by his own. Previously, his mother was doing all the things for him and he was in the safest security zone but now he has taken birth. Now he has to grow, take education, earn money, fulfill his commitments in relationships, make a name in the society and so many things are awaiting there for him in the form of large expectations and the child cries!
-   But the child like Sage Kabir thinks differently. They think other way which is not even in the wildest dreams of many and he preaches here that, “Do something that after death, you laugh and world cries.” A great meaning of Karma is wrapped in this.
-   Here, Kabir preaches that NOT ONLY Kabir, but everyone should do something that after their death, world cries. Just because Kabir knew the secret that “We have the CHOICE every moment to do GOOD/ BAD.” And that is why Kabir asks us to do only good things as he knows that the Earth is Circular in shape. Whatever you give, is the same thing you receive with greater amount. So do GOOD and receive GOOD is the simple but real meaning of life he wanted to tell.

3) Pothi padh padh jag muwa, Pundit bhayo na koi. Dhai Aakhar prem ka, padhe so pundit hoy. (None became Wise by reading the scriptures. The one who has learned 2.5 letters of Love, became wise in the end.)
-  This is the most famous Sakhi of Sage Kabir but unfortunatley the most one which is misunderstood.
-  It is a pain to write that some people have conceived the meaning of ’2.5 letters of Love’ as “Pyaar (Word of Urdu origin used mostly in Hindi to convey the feeling of Materialistic Love)” it is wrong!
-  Kabir never asked anyone to get married nor he asked anyone to get out of marital life. Kabir never criticised nor appreciated marriage but though, he kept on singing that the one who has learned “2.5 letters of Love” is the one who is wise. And people shrinked the meaning, that this love is something related to Men and Women. Because, our Love can’t think more than this. And Sage Kabir knew this “Human Psycology” very well and that is why he wrapped “The Secret” in the name of Love beautifully so that everyone can know what real love is.
-  When Kabir referenced “Prem” as the Library for the wisdom, he never referenced any physical relation. He meant the Love which is beyond gender, beyond every boundary, beyond caste and religion, beyond expectations and EQUAL for everyone. This was his defination of Love and when he told that “Know the 2.5 letters of Love and Be wise”, he directed the immortal path of “Dhyan (Meditation)”!!!
-   “Dhyaan” has 2.5 letters in Hindi (National Language of India) as it is a Hindi word and it gives ALL the qualities to the person to be a wise man. In Hindu scriptures, a Pundit is the one who is the most capable and naturally if you wish to be the most capable, you have to have TOTAL knowledge, TOTAL strength, TOTAL humanity, TOTAL wisdom and TOTAL prosperity. And all of these things one can gain by Meditation. Because it bridges us with the REALITY – Of US AND OF THE WORLD. -  “The world is not something to discuss, but something to Live and you can only live fully if you have known ALL the DIMENSIONS. This was the simplicity of “Sage Kabir”! He wrapped all the secrets of the religion with the simplest touch because he was “Sahajyogi”. ‘Sahajyog’ is one type of Meditation in the form of Deep Devotion. ‘Meditation’ is not a word related to some fixed type of “Physical activity” but a word describing the “Inner Feeling of connection”. It combines you with the Ultimate source of Love – GOD himself and, in ANY form when you are one with GOD, you are meditating. The Core of meditation is to forget your self completely by achieving new heights of reality.
