Author Bio : Utkarsh Patel is a corporate-professional-turned-mythologist and now the author of “Shakuntala – The Woman Wronged”, published by Rupa Publications. He is a professor of Comparative Mythology at the Mumbai University and has qualifications in Mythology, both Indian and World from Mumbai University. He has been writing a Blog, ‘This is Utkarsh Speaking’ (www.utkarshspeak.blogspot.in) for close to five years now, where he discusses lesser known myths and helps understand the myths in context. The effort is to unravel the hidden meanings of the myths and reasons behind the myths, the way they are. Utkarsh takes myths from all cultures and even lesser known cultures like the North American, Mesoamerican, and the Scandinavian myths, besides the usual Indian, Greek and Egyptian myths. Utkarsh also writes and speaks extensively on the epics and the numerous versions of the epics, especially Ramayan and Mahabharata.

Utkarsh is also a founder member of ‘Talking Myths Project’ ), an online archive of traditional tales from the Indian Sub-continent. The objective of this project is to archive tales which will soon be out of the public domain, as the people who know and tell them will not be around for long. Many such tales were of oral nature and with the generation focussing on modern tales, these tales will be lost forever. While this site is based on contributions, the founders contribute regularly too.
