Though his grandfather won four caps for Scotland and his father played professionally there, the Aberdeen-born Fulham rookie - who was transplated to Perth aged 11 - is now cleared to make his debut for Paul Okon's Australia U-20s side in Myanmar in October as it bids to qualify for the 2015 U-20s World Cup in New Zealand.
Heavily courted by the Scots - for whom he played three times at youth level - Burgess, 18, said he was more than happy to have pledged his allegence to the green and gold.
"I consulted with my family and all those who have been close to me and they didn't really try and influence me one way or another - and just said that the decision was mine to make," said Burgess, who has made four senior appearnces for Felix Magat's struggling Fulham side so far this season.
"The message was that it was down to me and they would support any decison I made - and I know this is the right one. The clearance has come through now and I am really pleased with that.

Grandafther Campbell Forsyth was a goalkeeper in the 1960s for Scotland during a career which saw him play for St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Southampton while dad Stuart was at Albion Rovers, East Fife, Falkirk and Kilmarnock.
Burgess even trained with Aberdeen and Celtic as a kid and still has a Scottish flavour to his accent.
A part of an Australia U-20s camp in Dubai earlier this year, the former Perth Glory junior has long been on the radar of Okon and Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou even confirmed after this week's 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia that he was tracking him with a view to a possible call up.
"I have spoken to them (the Young Socceroos coaching staff) and I am definitely available for the squad in October and hope to be called up," he added.
"When I was at the camp with the team in Dubai that made a big impression on me and really got me thinking and it went on from there really. Who knows, maybe I will get to play for the Socceroos one day."
Burgess's run in the Cottagers's first team came to an end after Fulham's 5-1 loss at Derby County in late August, but he is hoping to be restored to the first team squad for Sunday's (AEST) visit to Reading, where fellow Australians Ryan Edwards and Adam Federici will be waiting in the opposition ranks.
Air Max 2013 for sale "I've just been battling away and trying to get myself back in," said Burgess. "We've had a difficult start to the season but I think we've turned the corner a bit (with a League Cup win over Brentford and a draw with Cardiff) and we're getting things back on track.
"We're back from the international break now and raring to go again. I would be absolutely delighted to be in the squad but will just have work hard at training and see what happens.
"Obviously, like me, Ryan is a Perth boy and we talk from time to time and it would be good to see him again."

अक्सर वो कुछ तन्हा से होते है
पराये अहसासों को लफ़्ज देतें है
खुद के दर्द पर खामोश रहते है
जो पोछतें दूसरे के आँसू अक्सर
खुद अँधेरे में तकिये को भिगोते है
