1.Your journey to the literary world
A partisan of Literature, especially Poetry, I dropped my engineering in the final year, and at an age of 21, conceptualized Poets’ Corner Group in the year 2011, and co-founded Delhi Poetry Festival in 2013. Poets’ Corner hosted three consecutive and successful seasons of Delhi Poetry Festival, and all because as a director I believed and made my young members believe in the motto of winning by the quill. The launch of Kaafiya – The Poetry Festival was announced on June 30, 2015, and in the record time of 100 days, the entire process of conceptualization, planning and execution of the plan took place. We kick started our mission with a vision to make Delhi, the poetry capital of India and eventually of the world.
2. What do you think about the newly emerged genre "Micro-fiction"
The compendious nature of this type of fictional writing has fetched it a name as such. With imminent brevity, it is the clarity and precision that helps it earn the brownie points over its long-winded compeer. And thus, makes it the first choice of those who enjoy reading maybe less yet impactful writings. I too prefer it sometimes when having less time on hands and yet the persistent desire to read. Not being a connoisseur of Flash-Fiction I have only this much to say that whatever written is capable of leaving its imprint on the reader’s psyche is a good genre and should be encouraged.
3. We would like to know about "Kaafiya - the poetry festival"
Poetry is undoubtedly our heirloom. Kaafiya – The Poetry Festival was conceptualized keeping in mind the need for exclusive and significant space to be given to poetry in mainstream literary celebrations. It thus emerged as a multifaceted Poetry festival committed to resuscitate and rejuvenate poetry in the current scenario. It perseveres to spread poetry in every possible nook and cranny and with a vision to make Delhi, the poetry capital of India and eventually the world’s. Kaafiya strongly aims to become one artistic medium to guide and support the blooming poetics, and thus toils to touch the various avenues of poetry by inviting the littérateur having great sagacity and know-how. It is a youth-driven festival where novice poets get to rub shoulders with seasoned lyricists, literary geniuses and luminaries.
4. Tell us about your book/s.
I have been working on two translation books, one of Munawwar Rana and another of Mansur Hallaj which I am doing with Sadia Khan. I also have got space in several anthologies alongside veterans and also new and sensational poets of our time, yet a solo poetry book is long-awaited.
5. A message for the reader's community...
Literature is heterogeneous and many-splendored. There are prolific writers, and they are writing for you to read. This fabulous occupation of reading shouldn’t get stalled therefore. So every time when a book is read, literature gets a natural and basic revamp. New ideas are incorporated, old ones commemorated, and more books are written— succinct or loquacious — take your pick and read!
