1. Who is Summerita Rhayne?
She's a romance author. She writes historical and contemporary romance. She's also a homemaker, doctor and a teacher.
2. When did you find yourself lost in the world of words?
I think writing was never far away from me. Even when I wasn’t yet formally a novelist, I was composing stories in my head. Nowadays the trigger for writing is whenever I find solitude or inspiration. You cannot define or deflect inspiration. You might be going about your day, travelling or watching a movie or just observing people and you find the inspiration insect buzzing and then it bites and you find yourself reaching for your pen or keyboard. I never force myself to write when I'm not in the mood.
3. For a writer, How important it is to be a good reader?
As important as for a chef to love food. If you don't explore some of the zillion ways a story can be written, you are stunting your education as far as the art of story telling is concerned.
4. Your views on online readership.
It's great, it's here to stay and it's providing a platform to authors like never before.
5. Why do we need to sensationalise the topic of feminism? What is feminism for you?
I don't believe in extremism. When feminism speaks in reference to a kind of exclusion, it becomes unpalatable. Women are human and should be a part of humanism. When you promote feminism, you're creating further discrimination. That's what I think.
Women are important to society and so are men. Let's have welfare for women as an integral part of humanism rather than making women out to be another species.
6. What is social media for you? How do you see social media?
A chance to get to know people I wouldn't otherwise.
7. A message for young literature enthusiasts...
Read a lot and live life first. Don't take up writing until you are forty. That way you can enjoy your life. And have something to write about when you take up the pen.
